10 Airbnb Photo Mistakes That Are Killing Your Bookings

Ten problems we see constantly

Most underperforming listings are not missing a good camera. They are repeating the same handful of avoidable mistakes, and every one of them is fixable before a photographer arrives.

1. Shooting from eye height

Held at head height, a camera looks down at furniture and shrinks the room. Wide interior frames belong at lightswitch height, roughly 48 inches. This one change improves more listings than any other.

2. Crooked verticals

A door frame that leans two degrees makes the whole image feel wrong even to people who cannot say why. Camera level, verticals straight.

3. One photo per room

A single frame of a bedroom gives a guest no sense of the layout. Bedrooms, bathrooms and living spaces should get at least two angles each.

4. Closed blinds

Rooms shot on overhead light alone look flat and yellow. Open everything, turn the lamps on, turn the ceiling lights off.

5. Clutter that the owner stopped seeing

Charging cables, remote controls, dish racks, bins, fridge magnets, bathroom products. All of it is invisible when you live with it and obvious at full resolution.

6. Shooting into the sun outside

A blown white sky with the house in shadow is the standard failed exterior. Put the sun behind you, and shoot exteriors in late afternoon rather than at noon.

7. Photographing the wrong things

Hallways, closets, the inside of the laundry cupboard. These fill the gallery without selling anything. Give them one frame if they genuinely help, and spend the rest on the rooms guests care about.

8. Ignoring the mirror

Bathroom and bedroom mirrors capture whatever is behind the camera. Check the reflection before releasing the shutter.

9. Mismatched editing across the set

Twenty photos that each look slightly different in colour and brightness read as amateur even when each is individually fine. A gallery has to look like one property on one day.

10. Leaving photos up for years

Furniture changes, you renovate, the palm grows. A listing whose photos no longer match the property generates the kind of review that is very hard to recover from. See when a reshoot is worth it.
