Video is worth it in some places and not others

Video does very little inside the listing

Guests browsing a platform scroll photos. Most never open the video, and the platform's search grid shows a still image regardless. If your goal is more clicks from search results, video is not the lever. A stronger cover photo is.

Video does a lot outside the listing

Where video earns its cost is everywhere the listing is not: Instagram and TikTok, paid social, your direct booking site, and email to past guests. Those channels are built for motion and a photo set performs poorly in them. If you are actively marketing your property rather than relying on platform search alone, video is genuinely useful.

What makes property video work

• Short. Thirty to sixty seconds. Nobody watches three minutes of a rental walkthrough.
• Vertical for social. A horizontal video reframed later loses the composition. Shoot for where it will be posted.
• Motion with purpose. Moving through a doorway into a room shows the layout. Slow drifting across a wall shows nothing.
• Lead with the best thing. First two seconds decide whether anyone sees the rest.
• Works without sound. Most social viewing is muted.

Get the photos right first

Video cannot rescue a listing whose photos are weak, because the photos are what people see first. If your budget covers one, spend it on photography. Add video once the photos are doing their job and you want something to post.

Who it is genuinely worth it for

Properties with a real wow factor that a still cannot carry: a view, a dramatic pool area, an unusual layout, high-end finishes. Also anyone running direct bookings or paid social, where video is the format the channel rewards. For a standard two-bedroom relying on platform search, the honest answer is that the money is better spent elsewhere.
