How to Photograph Your Airbnb Hot Tub for Maximum Appeal

Hot tubs are a search filter, so photograph like it

Guests filter for a hot tub before they read a single word of your listing. Once they are looking, the photo has to answer three unspoken questions: is it clean, is it private, and is it actually nice to sit in. Most hot tub photos answer none of them.

Shoot it lit, in low light

A hot tub photographed in daylight is a grey plastic shell. The same tub photographed at dusk with the interior light on and steam rising is the reason someone books. If the tub matters to your listing, it should be shot in the twilight window rather than during the daytime pass.

Turn the tub on twenty minutes before the shot so the water moves and the steam builds. Lift the cover off entirely and put it somewhere out of frame. A half-open cover is the most common hot tub photo and it looks like storage.

Get the angle low and slightly across

Shoot from just above the waterline, angled across the tub rather than straight down into it. Straight down shows you an empty basin. Across the water picks up the light in the surface, the jets, and whatever is behind it.

Include context in at least one frame. A hot tub with the fence line, the string lights and the sky behind it reads as a place to spend an evening. A tight crop on the tub alone reads as a product listing.

The clean test

Show the privacy

The question guests will not ask you directly is whether the neighbours can see in. If your tub is genuinely screened by a fence, a wall or planting, take the frame that proves it. If it is not, choose the angle that shows the tub honestly without making privacy the subject. Do not fake it. A guest who arrives to a hot tub overlooked by three houses leaves a review that costs more than the booking was worth.
