How to Photograph Your Airbnb Pool for Maximum Bookings

In Arizona the pool is often the listing

For a Phoenix or Scottsdale rental in summer, the pool is the reason the guest is looking at your listing at all. It deserves more than one frame taken at noon from the back door, which is what most pools get.

Time of day decides the photo

Midday is the worst time to photograph a pool. The sun is directly overhead, the surface turns into a sheet of white glare, and the water loses its colour entirely. The water reads blue when the light comes in at an angle.

That twilight window is roughly twenty minutes long, which is why it gets shot as a scheduled part of the session rather than squeezed in. We shoot real twilight on location. See how real twilight compares to the virtual version.

Get low and get the whole yard

Drop the camera to roughly waist height and shoot across the water rather than down into it. A low angle stretches the pool across the frame and puts the house behind it, which is the shot that shows guests what the space actually feels like.

Include the surroundings. A pool photographed in isolation could be anywhere. A pool with the loungers, the shade, the grill and the back of the house in frame tells a guest what their afternoon looks like.

Prep the water and the deck

Shoot the amenities individually

If you have a hot tub, a swim-up bar, a fire pit or a putting green, each one is worth its own frame. Guests filter and compare on specifics, and an amenity that only appears as a corner of a wide shot may as well not be there. One resort-style Scottsdale yard we shot recently ran to a full set of amenity frames on real twilight, and every one of them earns its place in the listing.

Book a shoot and tell us the pool matters. We will schedule it for the right light.
